I flipped through my album for PhotoHunt theme this week, bird(s) it is. And I found a few pictures of cormorants to share with you all.
Cormorants on the raft
Cormorants
Cormorants are seabirds. But in China, these birds have colonized inland waters. Photos above were taken at Daxu Town, an ancient town located on the bank of Li River, which is only 15 kilometers southwest of Guilin City. Historically, cormorant fishing has taken place in China. It is a traditional fishing method in which cormorants are trained to fish in rivers. A snare is tied near the base of the bird’s throat, which prevents the birds from swallowing larger fish. The fisherman then helps to remove the fish from the bird’s throat when the cormorants return to the fisherman’s raft.

Bird
I have never seen a cormorant before although I may have seen them before in zoos and I was not just aware of their name. They seem to be big birds, larger than the average kingfishers who also thrive in rivers. Thanks for featuring their photos in your post. Your post was really educational. God bless.
I also see cormorants for the first time back then! A big bird indeed!
Very neat photos. I like the first one and the lines that sorta draw your eye to the birds. Well done!
Thanks!
