They are both very nice shots. Getting good manual exposures takes practice, just as becoming good at anything else does. The great thing about digital cameras is, you can usual take as many pictures of something, as you want,.. until your batteries run out

I use the manual mode most of the time on my camera. Unless I want to make sure I get a shot that I’m not going to totally mess up then I switch to another setting. Sometimes you don’t get a second chance and I don’t always trust myself to get it right the first time.

You did very well for your first time. I have only been shooting with manual exposure for quit some time now, and I love the control it gives you over your camera.
